#BEDN {leaving on a jet plane}

I've just returned from Tenerife, Los Gigantes {on Tuesday evening}, it was a lovely holiday. We stayed at the Laubay Los Gigantes Hotel and it really did live up to it's 4 star status. The whole resort was spotless, I'd struggle to find fault to be honest.

We had emailed the hotel manager in advance and mentioned our room and room location preferences {we always do this, if you don't ask you don't get}, when holidaying with a toddler you do have some requests. We had read a lot of the rooms were over two levels and the littlest isn't that great with coming down stairs so one request was to have a one level room. The others: a quiet area, not too far from the restaurant areas and a sea view. We got it all, the photo above is taken from the room balcony {to the right side} we had a perfect sea view. It was a two room apartment with a shower and a bath. The living area {which my big girl claimed} had a sofa bed. The littlest slept with the Mr and I as our bed was huge and if she sleeps in a travel cot / bed she always ends up in with us {on holiday} anyway. There was a mini-bar in the room which was replenished every day {included in the all inclusive package}, this was great and I'll be looking for this option on all future holidays.

Talking of all inclusive... the food was great! We've been on a good few all inclusive holidays now and this time I've never seen such choice of food and it was ALL delicious. There was a dish to suit everyone. I even saw special sections catering for gluten free, diabetic dishes and soya dishes! As usual I ate far too much, although in my defence I ate loads of fish and vegetables. My usual meals consisted of toast and boiled egg with a slice of cheese for breakfast, with fruit. Lunch was baked potato with loads of salad side dishes and fish if that was on offer. Dinner was fish again or chicken and tonnes of different veggies.... yes and cakes... lots of desserts! Too scrummy to resist {although I did resist some days}. I was surprised that I only put on 2lbs!

What I loved about the dining areas were... table cloths, proper napkins, drinks served to you by the many many waiting staff. If you asked for water it came in small bottles, if you asked for wine you got a new bottle... you could also help yourself from the drinks station but the waiting staff were happy to serve you.

The pool areas also had snacking areas, I didn't eat from these but the food looked great and was all covered over and they had BBQs going on too! As normal ice-cream was served all day long, usually you'd help yourself to big tubs but no... here they served you individual sealed tubs! How fab! Everything felt so clean and hygienic!

We spent a lot of time at the {quiet} pool, it had a tiny little pool that was perfect for the littlest and she could happily sit in there, walk about, pretend to swim and play for ages. Right next to that was the big pool {I say big but in comparison to the main pool it was about a third of the size, yet it was still huge!}. It wasn't that busy at all and at some points during the day I was the only one in there! I do love swimming, I'm not great at it but I love it.

The entertainment at night was just what you'd expect. It was out of season so we didn't expect too much. There was a mini disco that started at 8.30pm, which I thought was a little late for a 'mini' disco as a lot of the kids were really young. This lasted around 30mins then there was a lot of nothing going on, kids dancing about {unattended} on the stage and generally running about then there was a nightly show. We missed the first night's magic show as we were really tired having been up since 5am. But we saw the Parrot Show, Snake Show {which I was dragged up on stage for!}, an Chinese Acrobatic Show, a {another} Magic Show, the Laubay Show, a Michael Jackson Tribute Show and a Queen Tribute Show... all not too bad. They finished around 10.15 each night and by that time the littlest had fallen asleep in our arms.

We didn't venture too far into Tenerife as we were there to relax. But on the days it was a bit cloudy we ventured into the shops. It's quite a steep walk! There wasn't that much going in the town, a few shops all selling the usual holiday things... fake designer bags, jewellery, clothes etc... My big girl bought a few nice things and I bought a lava stone bracelet.

We're back home now and back to reality and to healthy eating! One thing I noticed {more} on holiday is how uncomfortable I am with my weight and it's time to do something about it.

What's your favourite holiday location?

the {cloudy} holiday

Oops, I may be just a little late in chatting about our holiday...

We had been really {and I mean really} looking forward to our Spring holiday. Work / Life is pretty busy right now and we struggle to get time together. We booked a 5 day break to Lanzarote {as Lanzarote is hot all year round, right?}, we left on 28th April - flying from Edinburgh.

Our flight times were great {ahem.. more on that later} and so far the littlest has always been a great flyer and takes it all in her stride, long may that continue! When we arrived at Arrefice airport it was quite dull...Oh uh! It's not a huge island so the weather is usually the same all over. Sadly it stayed cloudy for the 5 days! We had around 20mins of sunshine the whole holiday as the pools are heated from the sun it was far too cold to swim {bummer!}

smiles in the only bit of sunshine we saw

The hotel {Los Zocos} was OK, the public areas and restaurants were very clean and tidy. Our room was a little basic though with no aircon {maybe I should be glad it wasn't scorching} but it was fine, I just like a little bit more comfort when on holiday. The entertainment for the littlest in the evening was really dire but it was out of season so I guess that's to be expected... she still had a great time though so that's all that matters.

It was quite an exhausting holiday, no lazing by the pool, no sunbathing and no swimming. We spent every day walking into town, finding play parks and strolling around the shops. We were looking forward to coming home by the time we reached the last day... then WHAM an 8 hour flight delay {I could have cried}, not only the huge delay but we were being flow into Glasgow which meant a coach transfer to Edinburgh. We had expected to be home for littlest bedtime routine {about 6pm} but instead we got home around 4am! I had been awake nearly 24 hours by the time we got home and I had 3 hours sleep before littlest woke up for the day... I'm perfectly justified to say 'I need another holiday'

...sneaks in

We're back!

I can't say it was the most relaxing holiday I've ever had... actually I've never had a relaxing holiday in my life, now I come to think of it.

It was a little unfortunate that the weather in Lanzarote was cloudy for most of our stay, we had a little breakthough of sunshine... when I say a little I mean around 20mins or so! The pool was absolutely frozen, no-one was in the pool the whole week! I was really looking forward to a good swim too!

Most of our time away we spent walking into town, eating way too much and playing with the littlest on swings and slides. The food was fine, although it was a bit of the same menu each time but I did try my best to vary the meals.  I was getting a little sick of the options by the last day though, but then maybe I was just getting sick of eating in general as we lingered over lunches and dinner as there wasn't much to do on resort {in the poor weather}.

I'll post a full review {with photos and all} soon but I just wanted to check in with all you lovely people and thanks for your messages too, it's nice to be missed.

Wondering Wednesday

I am actually still on my holidays {and I'm typing this post up before I go}...

I'm sure by now I'll have quenched my overpowering urge to swim, I do love swimming and miss it a lot! I might even have read a whole book. One thing is for sure I'll have eaten far too much and now be thinking of my healthy eating plan on my return home.

Another thing that's for sure, I'll be missing my big kiddos. I know they are now young, responsible adults {don't have burned my house down or had any wild parties please!} but they are still my babies and not seeing them for 5 days will have had my little head and heart in a spin!

But... we're home tomorrow, hopefully fully relaxed, replenished and raring to go! Hope you've not missed me too much?

Out {of office}

It's been such a busy week at work and at home and I am ever so pleased it's Friday... double pleased that I could turn on my Out of Office at work...

Monday started off at 5.30am when the littlest's black out blind slipped off the window {I'm not moaning in the slightest about the beautiful sunlight that was streaming in}... so that was a long day.

Tuesday I had a Quarterly Property Management in Edinburgh which had taken a whole lot of preparation but we picked up some Krispy Kreme on the way and arrived to bacon rolls for breakfast and pizza at lunch time... turned out a good meeting after all.  Another long day after travelling back and forth to Glasgow then to Edinburgh then back to Glasgow then picking up my girls then back home {I stay somewhere between Glasgow and Edinburgh}

Wednesday after work this happened... some lovely sunshine!

The girl loves to chalk

...and bubbles

...and smiles

Thursday was the start of the interview process for recruiting an assistant for me, does anyone enjoy interviews or interviewing? Previously I would have answered No to that but it really was a good day. We've chosen our short listed candidates and the one to one interviews will take place early May.  Really looking forward to the successful person starting!

Today... that last day of work before annual leave when you have so much to do and you have meetings most of the day. That resulted in me not leaving my desk until near 6pm but my out of office is active and we've now packed our suitcases... Yes we're off on holiday on Sunday morning, just a short 5 day break in the sun... ah... and relax!

I'm hoping to schedule some posts for during the week, if I have time. I always go internet free when on holiday abroad... so that it really is a holiday.

So, until I return have a lovely week!
